Good Morning Lovies!

It has been getting colder and colder here in Ohio. I’ve finally caved in and pulled out all of my winter clothing. I always try to hold onto my summer goods until the absolute last minute, but man, it been so chilly that I finally caved. While I hate giving up on my short sleeves and dresses, I must admit I am excited to get layering!

I’ve recently found an amazing boutique clothing store in Baltimore, Maryland that has such great pieces called Kelsey’s Kloset. If you’re not in the Baltimore area, have no fear! They have an amazing online store too! Winter clothing is so great because in my opinion the more layers you add, the better the look. One easy layer to add to just about any outfit is a good scarf. Kelsey’s Kloset Boutique sent me one of their brand new blanket scarfs and I am head of heels in love with it. I wanted to share it with you and show you four simple ways I’ve been incorporating it into my winter wardrobe!actually-ashley-blanket-scarft-style-four-ways-coverLook Number One: actually-ashley-blanket-scarf-style-drape-shawMy first look is a blanket scarf draped over my shoulders like a shawl.  This is by-far the easiest style, and is so simple to do! Simply fold the blanket scarf in half into a large triangle. Drape the triangle over your shoulders for a casual look. Another great style tip- try tying the ends in front of your body for a slightly more polished version (this also helps to prevent the scarf from slipping or moving!)

Look Number Two:actually-ashley-blanket-scarf-style-traditional-wrapThis second look is a timeless classic. Like the shawl style, fold your blanket scarf in half into a large triangle. Place the center of the triangle at the nape of your neck. Wrap the ends around your neck, and allow them to fall towards the front. I like to “Fluff” my scarf so it lays in a nicer shape. I like to separate the center of the triangle after wrapping it to show more layers.

Look Number Three:actually-ashley-blanket-scarf-style-traditional-tuck-ends Like the traditional style before, wrap your large folded triangle around your neck just like look number two. Instead of allowing the ends to flow freely, tuck them under for a more tailored look! You can also loosely tie the ends underneath to prevent them from becoming visible.

Look Number Four:actually-ashley-blanket-scarf-infinity-styleI am a sucker for a good infinity scarf- and you can transform any normal scarf into one! Start this one with the large triangle. Slowly start at the tip and loosely roll until you get to the end. Wrap the scarf around your neck twice. Tie the ends into a small knot to secure. Tuck the knot under the other layers to hide it! Voila- Infinity Scarf!

What do you think! All four ways are so simple but create different looks. Don’t have a blanket scarf? No worries, Kelsey’s Kloset Boutique is offering all of my readers 10% off of their entire purchase. Yes, that is your ENTIRE purchase- not just blanket scarfs! Use the code AshleyLovesKKB at check out! Be sure to check out their other goodies!actually-ashley-kelsey-kloset-coupon-code-bannerHow do you style your blanket scarf? Be sure to share photos of yourself in your scarf on Instagram and tag @actuallyashleyblogs and @kelseysklosetboutique for a chance to be featured this upcoming week!  I can’t wait to see the fun styles you guys come up with!

Monday Morning Coffee

Grab a big cup of coffee and get some inspiration with

One:Actually-Ashley-MMC-Fall-Wood-SignHow adorable is this little sign?! Jessi from Cheerfully Creative makes some pretty adorable things, but this sign is one of my favorites for fall. At just $38 this would make a really sweet (and easy) hostess gift for Thanksgiving! I think this might be perfect for our front porch, I might need to scoop one up! I can’t wait to see more goodies pop up in her etsy shop!

Two:Actually-Ashley-MMC-Xmas-Tree-BlueI know, I know.. Its not even Thanksgiving and I’m sharing Christmas decor! But, I mean, come one! Traditional Home is KILLING IT with this stunning living room.We have a lot of navy blue and white in our new home, and I am struggling to come up with a design plan for Christmas that doesn’t include red. Not that I do not like red for the holidays, but I just do not see it in our house this year. This beautiful home designed by Amy Morris incorporates layers of lavender and blue even for the holiday season.  I’m loving this inspiration!

Three:actually-ashley-mmc-art-one-kings-laneOne King’s Lane shared this really great article about creating art displays and curating art in your own home. The entire article is great and packed full of tips and tricks from the experts but one of my favorite tips was thinking outside of the box when it comes to artwork. Art expert Elizabeth framed some well loved textiles to create unique artwork:

“When I showed Elizabeth all our art, I’d included a gathering of antique Mexican textiles inherited from a very dear cousin who had often traveled through Mexico. These included traditional needlepoint blouses, one of which I’d always passed by on the way into my cousin’s kitchen. Elizabeth suggested framing a pair of these blouses and using them to flank the watercolor in our bedroom. This way, she said, “the textiles will make this a mixed-media wall, so it will have a whole new texture. They won’t compete with the painting, but their colors will highlight its softer colors.” I have some silk scarfs that I collected from travels in Europe when I was younger. I would love to take them out of their box and have them on display in our house- but I’ll need to dust them off first!

Four:actually-ashley-mmc-mercana-pendant-light

If you’ve been following along with me and the house on Instagram you’d know I had electricians in last week to do some major work. I shared a sneak peak of our new dining room lights on my story- and so many of you reached out wondering where they were from so I thought I’d share with you! Previously I shared my favorite pendant lights and included these beauties with you, but unfortunately they are currently out of stock from Wayfair. However, I did find these similar ones for you here, here and here. If you’re trying to find my exact same ones they are from a company called Mercana and called The Anknoul III Light in natural wood and metal. They are 22″ in diameter and have an adjustable hang height (I hung mine 58″ off of the floor). I could not be happier with them! I’m going to share a lighting update this week so I’ll make sure to update you on everything else then!

Five:actually-ashley-mmc-how-to-hang-a-layered-gallery-wall-6492Last but not least, Alicia from A Burst Of Beautiful shares this surprisingly simple way to create a layered gallery wall. I absolutely love how layering the frames add so much dimension and interest to what would otherwise be a very typical gallery wall. Well done my friends, well done!

Thank you for stopping by! Be sure to follow along on Instagram for more house updates!

Professional Design: Majesty West Model

Wow! You have to see this Crisp and Clean Model Home in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia

Good Morning! I have such a fun house to share with you today! If you’re new around here, let me fill you in! I work as an interior designer for a large design firm in Washington DC called P[Four]. We design several different types of projects from commercial spaces, multi family, and offices- but our specialty is designing Model Homes for builders along the Eastern Seaboard.  Over the summer I designed this beautiful townhouse built by MI Homes in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. My firm P[Four] really knocked it out of the park with this one. Majesty West is a four story stunner with two roof top patios, beautiful details and crisp white walls. I am so happy with how the project turned out and hope you love it as much as I do! Photographer Maxine Schnitzer took some amazing photos of the Majesty West Model and I’m happy to share them with you now:

Even The Washington Post did a full article on the home and all of its amenities. They highlighted the perks of the beautifully designed kitchen here:

“We like to cook so we like the huge kitchen island and lots of prep space,” she said. The 10-foot-long marble island is designed with the waterfall feature, meaning the marble top falls to the floor. The microwave is hidden behind a cabinet door with a swing-up hinge. Ceiling lights are recessed, and the ceiling is pre-wired for a sound system. A little alcove houses a pantry, utility closet and powder room. Double-hung windows are large and let in lots of natural light. “Even on cloudy days it’s bright inside,” said Pam Swartz, new home consultant with Prime Building Advantage”

I hope you like Maxine Schnitzer’s photos of one of my favorite designs I worked on this year. I can not wait to share some more homes from my professional portfolio soon!

Until Next Time,
Ashley
